Hey guys! Here is a look at my first week as a Mary Baldwin student:
1. Some Orientation Thing:
Mary Baldwin is very traditional. Several traditions being required meetings at the Presbyterian Church across the street. The church's design and decor is beautiful, the candle lighting ceremony at the end was peaceful and a fun part was getting to dress up business casual:
2. First Day of School: On August 31st, it was my first official day of college. My first class was American Politics and Government and my second, Principles of Microeconomics and my third was American Studies.
I love that I can have a huge break in between my classes and just go back to my room. Having classes that start after 9:00 every day is my type of schedule because I am not a morning person.

3. Charter Day
Remember those traditions that involved going to a church that I told you about? Charter Day is one of them. There is a whole procession of seniors and faculty in their graduation attire. We recite multiple pledges and eventually sign them, the list went on. Although, it was fun to dress business casual:
This was my first outfit. It began to storm so I decided to change because there was no way I could wear casual footwear with this.
This was my second outfit.
They also let us take selfies in the middle of the meeting.
3. Freshman Fall Fire:
My roommate and I decided to attend the Freshman Fall Fire. We played a game of Jeopardy and socialized for about an hour.
4. Lunch with Mom:
Kate and I had lunch with her Mom and cousin. It was extremely entertaining and I am sure her cousin will have the memories forever.
Standing on the original Staunton train tracks.
5. Decorating my Dorm Room:
It took me a few days to get to campus and even to obtain all of my things. So here is the complete product of my dorm:
6. THE WEEKEND
So, on Fridays, my classes end at 12, as do my roommates. I don't know if that is a good thing because it gives us too much time to get into trouble and create shenanigans. As evidenced by this weekend:
Friday:
I was honestly just trying to stay organized and clean. I was cleaning out the microwave when the hot plate dropped and shattered. Which resulted in the puncturing and bruising of my foot. Kate said,"That's alot of blood" and I just grabbed a wash cloth to place pressure on the wound. From what I saw, there was barely any blood, until, I lifted up my foot.
After we cleaned up all the glass, we decided to take an adventure up the hill to the Health Center. Glass had spontaneously wound up in my flip flop and cut my other foot. Eventually, we made it to the Health Center and all was well.
All I have to do is wrap my foot for a couple days and clean it.
Then about half an hour after we decided to go on another adventure. We ate at The Yelping Dog in Downtown Staunton and then ordered some pizza from Shenandoah Pizza to take home. We also did a little sight seeing.
The most adventurous part of our adventure was Kate and I entertain each other. We laugh and do the weirdest shenanigans most of the time. Kinda like we are the Energizer Bunny on Crack.
After that adventure we watched Wes Craven's (RIP, he recently lost a battle with brain cancer) SCREAM. Then, The Lovely Bones. Now, there is a theory that the attic above our floor (my dorm is on the third floor) is haunted by the spirits of Civil War soldiers who died in this building (yes, Mary Baldwin has been around for that long) and even Mary Julia Baldwin herself.
What is funny, is this picture that is on my wall continues to fall off the wall. On Friday, even landing right on my left wrist. Then, a second time knocking off a porcelain figure from my menagerie. Last night, while I was sleeping.
Saturday:
Kate's boyfriend came for a visit and they were kind enough to let me tag along. First, we went to a buffet where I experienced my first Southern Brunch:
I bet I gained my Freshman Fifteen in that meal alone because Kate and I went crazy since the Mary Baldwin dining hall is nothing like this.
Then we decided to go to the Harrisonberg Mall. I found this marvelous piece of wall art:
Can you catch what movie it is from?
Then later that night, Kate left with her boyfriend, Cody. I spent my first night in the dorm alone.
My roommate found me this gem of a picture, and I love it! Adding it to my decor soon:
Hope everyone has a fun week! Here is to, the second week of college! Thank you!
