Trip to DC, Accepted Student Preview Day

Hey guys! So I hopped on a plane and decided to visit DC last week. I also went because my Accepted Student Preview Day was that weekend. Life has also been increasingly positive in the past few months.

So here are a few things before my DC trip:
The first picture is of my boyfriend, AJ. His real name is Alexander. He is a total dork but we actually fit each other surprisingly well. What I love is that over the span of our relationship, regardless of the actual time, we haven't ever fought or argued over anything. We talk, we communicate and we just enjoy the time we spend together. I couldn't ask for anything simpler and wonderful.

The next two pictures are from a sleepover with my friend, Cristina. We went to Dollar Tree and purchased $20 worth of snacks and just pigged out. We also went to the movies the next day and it was just an A.W.S.O.M.E. weekend. I bet you are also wondering why I am kissing a rooster. I am not in love with the rooster, actually my boyfriend has a phobia of birds so I thought it would be a sweet gesture to give him a rooster...with no legs.

Actual pictures of DC:

This was my first real day in Virginia. I spent the day chillin' with the Blakes. We watched The Spoils of Babylon, had ice cream, worked on goodie bags for Sarah's work. OH! Sarah and I also went shopping and ate at this French Cafe.

My second day was mostly travel. I took a train from Alexandria to Staunton, where Mary Baldwin is located. Although a train didn't sound entirely excited and adventurous, I was blown away! My seat buddy for most of the ride was a Political Science professor who was writing a book in Charlottesville. We discussed a variety of topics which made time fly but the country side was also beautiful.

On that train ride, I knew once again that Virginia is somewhere I really want to be. The state is just so special to me.

Once I arrived in Staunton, I met with a college sophmore who attends Mary Baldwin. She hosted me for the night. We watched I Know What You Did Last Summer and went to downtown to have gelato. That is when I discovered there is a synagogue in Staunton. WHA?!? In the middle of a tiny, colonial, art on the rise town there is a synagogue. That also blew me away.

My Gelato, I had Rasberry somethin' and Apple Pie!

Saturday was the actual event. I per-registered for classes, talked with teachers and saw the Freshman dorms. The funniest thing about the school is the mascot is a fighting squirrel, Gladys. Of coarse I had to take a picture:

I spent the rest of my day visiting the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and just walkin' around town and buying gifts. I love that there is a grilled cheese restaurant (I think it is a sign) and there is this vintage shop filled with LOTS of awesome treasures.

The Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library was teeny-tiny. However, there were three parts which was nice.

This is a replica of a WW1 bunker. Lemme' just say, don't go down there  by yourself.

                                                       Photo-bombed by the White House!

The 1912 Pierce-Arrow. Wilson was pimpin'

This really cool room that I can't describe. Guess you will just have to see it for yourself!

Sarah came and picked me up from Staunton to take me back to Alexandria. That was when the real fun started. So, this totally plays a part in my decision making, there are 2 abandoned asylums in Staunton! I was able to go inside one of them! No stray wheelchairs or strapped beds from what I saw, but there was a closet labelled the "Tool Room" with painted scissors on the wall and patients names underneath them. I am going to have SO. MUCH. FUN!

Sarah and I also walked around little Staunton:
                                                         Very front of Mary Baldwin

                                                           My big sister, Sarah!

The adorable little synagogue!

My final day in DC I accomplished ll on my own. After helping Sarah at work, I took the Metro into the national mall and walked around all by myself.

Here is the Virginia Sunday sunrise:

Not too shabby, eh?

On the Metro!

My first stop was the Washington Monument. This was the closest I have ever been to it AND it has a gift shop. If I had more time I would have taken the tour up to the top.

                                                         WW2 and Lincoln Memorial

WW2 Memorial wreath for the Pacific loss'

To those who risked and lost everything.

One of the memorials, Lincoln Memorial that will always be in my heart.

Cosi is one of my favorite DC lunch spots! Just down the street from the White House but they have great soup (Tomato Basil) and artisan bread.

The White House, my White House. I would say the back side of the White House is the Venice Beach if the East coast. There was a guy that was possibly dead from a hunger, death strike. There was another guy pretending to be the messiah with a microphone and some music.

My first pres-conference as Madam President.

In the Oval Office! They needed someone to step in, and hey, they decided it should be me.

These are actually all from the White House gift shop. Um, this was my third time in DC, walking down the national mall and I never heard about this!

This trip to DC was extra special for me. I believe it was because I was independent throughout and now I am at a time in my life where I have the option of living and attending school only 3 hours away.

Due to recent events in my life, I have been struggling with the idea of suddenly moving away from it all. I think it's funny how things tend to work out that way.  However, a wise friend of mine made a very strong point the other day. In California (sorry y'all) there is nothing to compare to DC. Walking down the national mall, I know that I belong there. Someone even asked me if I was a local.

I'm still deciding if I would actually leave, but I am not going to just sit on my ass and expect the decision to just hit me. I will invest in my back-up plan and Mary Baldwin.
